We all know that the greatest food ever invented is pizza, and that it’s the perfect meal at any time of day. So far, however, there have only been three ways to get your hands on a pizza when your stomach begins to growl – You can cook one at home, order a delivery, or head to a restaurant. But a fourth option is on the horizon, and has been making headlines for both its innovation, and the varied quality of its results.
The idea of a pizza vending machine may sound a little far-fetched, but it’s now a reality on at least one UK street. But where can you find it, and is it any good? We take a closer look.
Where can I find a Pizza vending machine in the UK?
At the time of writing, there is currently only one pizza vending machine in the UK. It’s called The Pizza Machine, and can be found in Glasgow’s Merchant City, at the junction of High Street and Ingram Street. It’s open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year, and claims to take only three minutes to cook your perfect pizza. There’s a range of toppings to choose from, you can pay quickly using credit or debit card, and a freshly-cooked pizza is delivered in a take-away box via a tray at the bottom.

Are Pizza vending machines any good?
Due to the uniqueness of The Pizza Machine, there is an abundance of user reviews online. A quick search on YouTube, TikTok and most other social medias will throw up numerous video reviews, with a variety of reactions. The machine currently has an aggregated score of 3.8 stars on Google reviews, with users praising its speed and convenience, as well as the amusement provided by its novelty factor. Some detractors point out that the quality of the food is more akin to a basic supermarket pizza, which may not fully justify the price tags hovering around £10. Many reviews also point out that the machine doesn’t yet have the technology to slice the pizza, which is delivered uncut, making it tricky to eat on the go.
Perhaps the most unfortunate user experience recorded is from a Glasgow resident named John McCarthy, who live tweeted his transaction at The Pizza Machine, only to be served a raw pizza with uncooked grated cheese on top. His tweet reached over 2k likes, with many followers sharing his pain, although his experience of receiving an uncooked pizza does appear to be an isolated error.
Will there be a pizza vending machine near me any time soon?
The Pizza Machine established its flagship vending machine in Glasgow back in 2020, and claims that further machines are in the works. There are currently plans for another 12 machines to go live, however these are all for locations in central Scotland. This spells bad news for pizza fans hoping for a 3-minute, unsliced, automated pizza in the East Midlands and across the UK.
